Our Intensive Outpatient Program for Mental Health is designed to meet the needs of the individuals who suffer from mental health disorders who are in need of more than just weekly counseling, but do not find inpatient care necessary. Awakenings is designed to help people resolve immediate problem areas by offering stabilization with medication, structure and support of group. IOP groups can be an effective way to learn coping skills and create a balance of support and structure to improve an individuals daily functioning.

Many of the disorders that we treat are:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Panic Disorder

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Thought Disorders

  • Co-Occurring Disorders

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Eating Disorders

Awakenings offers small groups, three times a week for three hours providing group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). We are an integrated program which included medication management with the psychiatrist.

Many topics covered in IOP groups are:

  • Mindfulness

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Distress tolerance

  • Understanding the brain chemistry with mental health disorders

  • Stages of Change

  • Grief/Loss

  • Self Esteem

  • Focus on co-occurring disorders

  • Effects on the family and how to improve communication

  • Meditation

Our adult substance abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for people who are struggling with addiction, substance use or abuse, and or co-occurring disorders. IOP may be recommended to those who do not need medically-supervised detox. IOP can enable people in recovery to continue their therapists, designed to accommodate their work and family life. IOP gropus can be an effective way to learn coping skills, create a balance of support and structure to improve the individuals daily functioning.

Awakenings recognizes that addiction is a chronic progressive disease that is driven by the abnormal response of the brain’s reward system. We offer Suboxone and Vivitrol treatments for those with opiate, heroin, and alcohol addiction and who may benefit from the combination of medication management along with group therapy to sustain sobriety.

  • Post-acute withdrawal symptoms (PAWS)

  • Relapse prevention skills

  • How to manage the urges and cravings

  • Understanding the brain chemistry of addiction

  • Mindfulness

  • Stages of Change

  • Grief/Loss

  • Focus on co-occurring disorders

  • Effect on the family and how to improve communications

  • Meditation skills

Women’s Trauma Group

Women’s Intensive Outpatient Trauma Group (IOP) is designed to help women understand the impact of early experiences and trauma, how it has impacted their adult life in relationships, parenting, marriage and the work place. Women with a history of trauma and abuse may struggle with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, flashbacks, and self-harm behaviors. Traumatic experiences can include neglect, psychological, physical, sexual abuse and domestic violence.

Topics covered are:

  • Mindfulness

  • Self-esteem

  • Distress tolearnce

  • Grief/Loss

  • Boundaries

  • Anger management

  • Co-dependency

  • Developmental cycles

  • Trauma and abuse

  • Meditation

  • Journaling/Art 

Awakenings offers small groups for women to learn how their bodies, emotions and self-esteem have been impacted by their traumatic experiences. The group promotes safety, trust and support and encourage women to be confident. This group meets three times a week for three hours each session. We provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT) in learning how to mange our emotions and behaviors.
